Sleek Half Up Do

Sleek Half Up Do How is this for an unconventional spin on a conservative Half Up Do? It's complex and simple at the same time. A definite show stopper.  Make you do a double take kind of show stopper.                                                 My model is Martha.   Martha was looking to keep her hair out of her face but still wanted high style. So to prep we used Moroccanoil Repair Shampoo and Conditioner. Moroccanoil Treatment Oil to detangle and protect. MO Volumizing Mousse for control then blow dry. Added a bit more Treatment to her tresses and  using the Brocato Vibrastrait Flatiron  gave Martha the perfect sleek locks she needed. Sectioning the hair from ear over crown to ear gave us what we need to work with. Put the lower half of the hair in a low pony to keep it out of the way. Make 5 triangu...

Full Messy Ponytail

I absolutely LOVE this ponytail. It has all the elements that make up the perfect feel. This season at NYFW we saw tons of ponytails.   There were pony's of all kinds.   Sleek.  Full.  Ratted.  Bouncy.  The ponytail will definitely be a staple  this spring and summer But my FAV is the Messy Ponytail.  It owns me. Here are the elements that I love : * Natural beachy waves * Full crown * Mid head placement * Textured, thick flowing locks * Soft front, swooping over top of the elastic This look has a tutorial  found  on   thebeautydepartment.com    It was Lucy Hale's look at the VMA's. Seriously it is so fabulous that  I may have to do my own tutorial. Lucy, are you free next week?

#Molly3 #Fishbone #Braid

#Molly3 #Fishbone #Braid I love braids.  And it's a good thing too because they are everywhere! I think the thing that is so intriguing about braids is their versatility. Just scroll through Pinterest and you will be blown away  with the millions of ways they can be done.  Seriously mind boggling! So it was only fitting for Molly's last look in her ad's Trending theme to be a BRAID . And I think this Fishbone Braid is perfect. Love how you can see the ribbons of color weave through.  Remember we still have the extensions in Molly's hair for thickness, hilites, and texture. Here's the link if you missed it :   Now Trending : #MOLLY Need a reminder of how to do a Fishbone Braid? Click on this link for a quick and easy tutorial: Fishbone Braid Just know it's from years ago.  I've got bangs.  My little girl is well....little.  LOL Maybe I should update that tutorial??  Probably should. Anyway, b...

#Molly2 #HalfUp #HalfDown

#Molly2 #HalfUp #HalfDown Hopefully you read my previous post,  Now Trending : #MOLLY   so you have already met my sweet friend. Sponsoring Molly for her high school Scholarship Pageant has been so much fun. And I think the "Trending" theme has been perfect.  With our next look we did a super popular and timeless half up half down.                         So to give it some real boom pow we worked with the golden extensions that we had previously put in her hair.  This gives tons of Oomph to work with as well as adding a lot of texture to her final look. Separating off her crown section, we backcomb to give a base and lift.  Just a few push downs with the teasing comb does all you need.  Then pin this section at the base of the cushion  (where you backcombed).      Working on the right side, take her front sect...

Loose Braid

Loose Braid Here are a few not so great photos of a loose braid that I did a week or so ago. I apologize for the bad photography but hopefully you can get the general idea.  All you need to do is braid your hair down the center of your head, curving the line to the side as you come to the bottom.    Once you have your basic braid in place and secured, take your fingers and run them under the braid as far as they can comfortably go. I start with the top to set the level of fullness that I want to see. (Starting with the sides can leave you with ruffled, uneven lift.) Now slightly shake your hand back and forth, lifting upward. Do the sides next and preferably do the left and right at the same time so they look even as well. Slide fingers in and under, slightly shake and lift. Lastly, repeat on the sides of the head below the ears to loosen the nape area. Looks cute, huh?  It's a great relaxed and romantic summer braid.  Check out this picture...

Low and Full Ponytail

Today's post is a tribute to a totally nontraditional ponytail. On the left is my hair on one of my many days at work when I rushed to get there. I gave it a product fill up and followed by a rough blow dry. Then, realizing I was running out of time, I took advantage of the volume and whipped it into two ponytails.  I don't want to call them pigtails  because the style just didn't have a "pigtail" look. I wore one pony behind my shoulder and one pony in front of the other shoulder.  ( You know I love "Ragamuffin" style and this fits me perfectly!! ) So the photo on the right??  Well, that's a funny story. Last night before going to bed I was perusing an old Allure magazine.  (I am quite the magazine junkie) So I open it up and there on the page was the fuller bottom ponytail by Orlando Pita! I was so excited; I had to get out my pics that we had taken from a while back and  share them with you guys....

Sleek, Shiny Braided Chignon

This is such a pretty look.  It goes super dressed up or super casual. Either way, it's a classic with an interesting twist. One that is sure to make others want to get a closer look to see how you did it. And the big bonus is, it is SO easy. Love easy! So we are borrowing a few pics from an earlier post, the  braided bun . (click on "braided bun" to take you there) So first, we start off with a braided ponytail.  This can be high on the head or lower. I'll elaborate on that at the end of the post. Then give the braid a slight tug to loosen and soften the braid.  It'll make the braid more pliable. Now just simply wrap the braid around your ponytail band and tuck the ends under. Pin on bottom first then pin on top to secure. Pin around the edges and since a braid is heavier and stiffer, it may take a few pins to make sure it holds. Sorry there aren't any pics of this stage but it's hard to snap all the steps. ...

Polished Top Knot

Here's a Show and Tell on a slightly more Polished Top Knot. Start off with scary, big, blown out hair.  No need to make it super straight. The more texture in the hair before, the better! Me - Before  ( Told you to start off with scary, big, blown out hair ! ) Next, begin pulling all the hair back for a ponytail. I always start with my front first and hold it in my hand so that I can leave a little fullness.  This will keep it from looking too slick and tight.  Finish the ponytail by brushing the nape hair into the front section. Remember to keep it high on your head. It's a TOP Knot.  Gots to be on TOP.   You can use a clear elastic for your pony but my hair is uber thick so I use the super fat black bands.  It'll be covered anyway so no worries. Using a traditional teasing comb, begin to moderately backcomb small sections of your ponytail. Work your way through the entire ponytail until yo...

Braided Bun

Today's do is the Braided Bun. Sooo cute and sooo easy! What do you think? Would you wear the Braided Bun??

Inverted Ponytail

Here's another cute ponytail option for summer straight from my very own fashion diva.  My daughter had her hair in a low, loose ponytail and lifted the ends up and tucked it into the space between the elastic and the nape of the head. I think it turned out really cute. What do you think?
