Sleek Half Up Do

Sleek Half Up Do How is this for an unconventional spin on a conservative Half Up Do? It's complex and simple at the same time. A definite show stopper.  Make you do a double take kind of show stopper.                                                 My model is Martha.   Martha was looking to keep her hair out of her face but still wanted high style. So to prep we used Moroccanoil Repair Shampoo and Conditioner. Moroccanoil Treatment Oil to detangle and protect. MO Volumizing Mousse for control then blow dry. Added a bit more Treatment to her tresses and  using the Brocato Vibrastrait Flatiron  gave Martha the perfect sleek locks she needed. Sectioning the hair from ear over crown to ear gave us what we need to work with. Put the lower half of the hair in a low pony to keep it out of the way. Make 5 triangu...

The Color of 50!!!

What does the color of "50" look like to you? Well, I'll be honest, as I am inching on that magical age  it's looking a LOT better than it did when I was a child.   It seems that hair color at that time was actually more like  "one color for all".   And that color was usually black .  **Thank you Lord for the progression in the world of hair color** As a hair dresser,  I have seen first hand how a great haircut and  flattering hair color can absolutely TRANSFORM ones outlook. Now take a look at Demi Moore.  Thanks to Getty Images Entertainment  for this picture of what is a sure fire inspiration for taking care of yourself!! When we enter this stage of life our hormones take over and go bizerk . But Demi shows us what is possible.  Let's don't talk about how she has hours to spend on her  physique and skin and hair etc. etc. etc.   For just a moment, let's pretend that our bodies' ...

Hi-dy Heidi

Hi-dy Heidi I try to do a twist on the traditional "before and after" pics as often as I can.    I really like the phrasing, "Inspiration to Commercial".   Most often people see a photo of a celebrity or a model and  use that as a request for their haircut. Now some hairdressers are not fond of clients bringing in pictures  but personally I LOVE them.   It is such a great tool for communicating with your client. It gives you something specific, even tangible, to point to as a reference. You can use it for bang length, perimeter length,  the point where layers begin or where fullness is in a hairstyle.   Things that sometimes get lost in translation when using words alone.  My beautiful model for this post is the lovely Heidi.   Having known Heidi forever, we have been through a lot over the years. We've also been through a LOT of hairstyles.   And some of them have been rather hysteric...

#Molly3 #Fishbone #Braid

#Molly3 #Fishbone #Braid I love braids.  And it's a good thing too because they are everywhere! I think the thing that is so intriguing about braids is their versatility. Just scroll through Pinterest and you will be blown away  with the millions of ways they can be done.  Seriously mind boggling! So it was only fitting for Molly's last look in her ad's Trending theme to be a BRAID . And I think this Fishbone Braid is perfect. Love how you can see the ribbons of color weave through.  Remember we still have the extensions in Molly's hair for thickness, hilites, and texture. Here's the link if you missed it :   Now Trending : #MOLLY Need a reminder of how to do a Fishbone Braid? Click on this link for a quick and easy tutorial: Fishbone Braid Just know it's from years ago.  I've got bangs.  My little girl is well....little.  LOL Maybe I should update that tutorial??  Probably should. Anyway, b...

#Molly2 #HalfUp #HalfDown

#Molly2 #HalfUp #HalfDown Hopefully you read my previous post,  Now Trending : #MOLLY   so you have already met my sweet friend. Sponsoring Molly for her high school Scholarship Pageant has been so much fun. And I think the "Trending" theme has been perfect.  With our next look we did a super popular and timeless half up half down.                         So to give it some real boom pow we worked with the golden extensions that we had previously put in her hair.  This gives tons of Oomph to work with as well as adding a lot of texture to her final look. Separating off her crown section, we backcomb to give a base and lift.  Just a few push downs with the teasing comb does all you need.  Then pin this section at the base of the cushion  (where you backcombed).      Working on the right side, take her front sect...

a jennyleigh salon?

a jennyleigh salon? Yikes!!! Well this was something I didn't see coming.  At least not at this time in my life. But I am so thankful that God has plans for us that we can't see. Which is probably a good thing.  I would most likely turn and run the other direction.   His timing is perfect and his ways are higher than our ways. This is an opportunity to put into action some of the things that God has  planted in my heart to do.  It's also been the biggest blessing for our family. Over the next couple of posts I will fill you in on how this little adventure came to be. I think you'll get a kick out of the marvelous works that God has done. A story of trust and faith building that I wasn't ready for. A story of stepping one step at a time because that is all that was lit up. God never said he would show us His whole plan but would reveal it as the time was right.  That is where we have been for that last couple of years. A...
It's a Beautiful World!   One of the best things about being a hairdresser is getting to enjoy those moments when people feel their best and refreshed. A great haircut can make you want to take on the world.  And I   count it a pleasure and an honor to be a part of so many of those great moments.  Here are a few of those moments caught after our haircutting sessions.  Enjoy!   Bailey Before Bailey After!   A glamorous "birthday do" I did on Ramie      Love her! Low and Full Ponytail

Today's post is a tribute to a totally nontraditional ponytail. On the left is my hair on one of my many days at work when I rushed to get there. I gave it a product fill up and followed by a rough blow dry. Then, realizing I was running out of time, I took advantage of the volume and whipped it into two ponytails.  I don't want to call them pigtails  because the style just didn't have a "pigtail" look. I wore one pony behind my shoulder and one pony in front of the other shoulder.  ( You know I love "Ragamuffin" style and this fits me perfectly!! ) So the photo on the right??  Well, that's a funny story. Last night before going to bed I was perusing an old Allure magazine.  (I am quite the magazine junkie) So I open it up and there on the page was the fuller bottom ponytail by Orlando Pita! I was so excited; I had to get out my pics that we had taken from a while back and  share them with you guys....

Learning Mondays

I love Learning Mondays! As you probably already know, most salons are closed on Mondays. It's great to have a weekday to handle "stuff".  But it's also the day that one can occasionally find extra education!!!  And I am ALL about that!!   So today was spent with some of the guys from Suddzz FX.  Up top's picture is with Elloy, from Austin, TX, and my friend and co-worker, Razel. I was so excited that we went together today. The last class I went to I had to go alone and it's just not nearly as fun. I have a tendency to find humor in the goofiest places and desperately need somebody to LAUGH WITH ME!  So thank you Razel for being my laughing buddy!  So the class, yes, it was great. Learned a chic-y new up-do. (I'll post on it later so I can get some good pics.)  Here is Elloy working on it.  Taken from my iPhone camera, they're not the best quality but I get so frustrated with my real camera that I couldn't br...
