It's a Beautiful World!   One of the best things about being a hairdresser is getting to enjoy those moments when people feel their best and refreshed. Here's A Peek Crazy Life continues to be the case and I'm very excited to tell you about the journey we've been on ASAP.  However, it's not quite the time right now.  So how about a tiny peek at some sweet ladies I've had the privilege of working with?  Sound good?  Alrighty then, here goes.  My awesome niece. Beautifully Ombré.  We've been growing these layers out & I'd say with this beautiful Chocolate color she is looking FABULOUS! Since I'm blogging from my phone we'll keep it short & sweet. But before I buzz out of here and slide into Lala Land I'll leave you with a Quick Tip: Keep a wide tooth comb and a jaw clip hanging in your shower.  Shampoo, apply deep conditioner, comb hair to detangle and spread the conditioner evenly throughout your hair. Then simply clip it up while you wash your body. When done, rinse hair.  Voila, super intense steam re-conditioning to make the most of your tim...

Loose Braid Here are a few not so great photos of a loose braid that I did a week or so ago. I apologize for the bad photography but hopefully you can get the general idea.  All you need to do is braid your hair down the center of your head, curving the line to the side as you come to the bottom.    Once you have your basic braid in place and secured, take your fingers and run them under the braid as far as they can comfortably go. I start with the top to set the level of fullness that I want to see. (Starting with the sides can leave you with ruffled, uneven lift.) Now slightly shake your hand back and forth, lifting upward. Do the sides next and preferably do the left and right at the same time so they look even as well. Slide fingers in and under, slightly shake and lift. Lastly, repeat on the sides of the head below the ears to loosen the nape area. Looks cute, huh?  It's a great relaxed and romantic summer braid.  Check out this picture...

I have the BEST Mama in the world.  Like for real - ya'll. No joke.  She's like the bomb-diggity.  And whether or not you  use that term doesn't matter because my Mama seriously is that . She has patience that I can only hope for. She has an ability to think things and NOT say them. She may forget to get the rolls out of the oven for dinner;  but I forget to BUY the rolls in the first place. She loves helping people anyway she can. She goes WAY out of her way to help people.  It's amazing. And she' not going to tell you about it either. Oh my friends, God made her good.  So I tell you that to tell you about a card she gave me for my birthday this last year. I was turning 43.  (* Eeegads *) But the age is not important.  She gave me this card like I'm sure so many of you have seen before. A card with all of these attributes that I'm supposed to have. My friends, please meet a great multi-talented artist and dear friend, Kris Catoe. Kris used to work with me at Rococo Hair Design ( where yours truly presently works ) a few years ago.  Ok, it was a lot of years ago but don't be bringing me down.  He is a laugh riot and as a hairdresser, well.... he's got skills. But that's not all.  This fella is also an Assemblage Artist.  He's got some incredible pieces that are just so interesting and unique.  Definitely like nothing I've seen before.   He's got a show in September; I'll post some pics of his work for you all to enjoy and a way to purchase, if you feel so moved.    Kris, who now owns The Moxie Salon in Gadsden, Al., was kind enough to invite me to a Rusk Color class he was hosting .  So, yea, I love those Learning Mondays so you know I was too happy to accept.  Getting to catch up with my friend and grow in some Rusk knowledge,....well, it ...

Today's post is a tribute to a totally nontraditional ponytail. On the left is my hair on one of my many days at work when I rushed to get there. I gave it a product fill up and followed by a rough blow dry. Then, realizing I was running out of time, I took advantage of the volume and whipped it into two ponytails.  I don't want to call them pigtails  because the style just didn't have a "pigtail" look. I wore one pony behind my shoulder and one pony in front of the other shoulder.  ( You know I love "Ragamuffin" style and this fits me perfectly!! ) So the photo on the right??  Well, that's a funny story. Last night before going to bed I was perusing an old Allure magazine.  (I am quite the magazine junkie) So I open it up and there on the page was the fuller bottom ponytail by Orlando Pita! I was so excited; I had to get out my pics that we had taken from a while back and  share them with you guys....

This is such a pretty look.  It goes super dressed up or super casual. Either way, it's a classic with an interesting twist. One that is sure to make others want to get a closer look to see how you did it. And the big bonus is, it is SO easy. Love easy! So we are borrowing a few pics from an earlier post, the  braided bun . (click on "braided bun" to take you there) So first, we start off with a braided ponytail.  This can be high on the head or lower. I'll elaborate on that at the end of the post. Then give the braid a slight tug to loosen and soften the braid.  It'll make the braid more pliable. Now just simply wrap the braid around your ponytail band and tuck the ends under. Pin on bottom first then pin on top to secure. Pin around the edges and since a braid is heavier and stiffer, it may take a few pins to make sure it holds. Sorry there aren't any pics of this stage but it's hard to snap all the steps. ...
